Both Cumnor and Grove played well in a good spirited cup tie.
In the first game Cumnor scored 3 quick goals with some great poaching by Harry, and one speculative long shot from Charlie T. However Grove quickly regrouped and proved hard to break down. In the end Cumnor won 4-0 with Harry getting a hat trick.
In the second game Cumnor had most of the possession and didn't look troubled at the back, but found it difficult to score. Cameron poached two goals to make the scoreline read considerably easier than it was in reality.
However it was only at this point the real entertainment started.
Cumnor fielded its usual third squad against largely the same players who had played in the first 2 matches (Grove only came with 15 players). Playing a 1-1-4 formation with Harry at the back, the Cumnor attacking formation of Adam, Charlie S, George D and Isaac clicked into place. Not only did the team score a hat full of goals, they played for each other. Nobody quite believed what was going on.
Congratulations to George D for becoming the teams highest ever scorer in a single half with 5 goals! Congratulations to Charlie S for his hat trick. But congratulations to the whole team for playing attactive, passing football and playing for each other.
In the second half some tactical re-arrangements by both sides made it a much closer match, and Cumnor ran out winners 10-2 (George D 5, Charlie S 3, Adam 1, and one OG).
