Cumnor off to winning start
Well done to both teams who battled through a close match to emerge eventual winners.
Apart from the first 15 seconds, in which St Edmunds scored, the first match was a close encounter. Cumnor kept to the task in hand with George M, Harry and Cameron running tirelessly in the midfield, and August and Joseph playing solidly in defence. Lewis kept the St Edmunds defence on their toes, but Cumnor spent much of the match in their own half with occasional breaks by Cameron. Man of this match was Adam for some solid goal keeping.
In the second match, Cumnor played a more attacking game, but always risked being caught on the break. A great combination saw William take our first goal of the season, and after that Cumnor had the better of the chances. However with 7 minutes to go, St Edmunds broke free and their centre forward was clear on goal. Fortunately for Charlie (and Cumnor) the ball went straight to the goalie. After that Cumnor pushed ever forward searching for the winner and eventually were rewarded with Guy finishing off a loose ball from a corner. After that St Edmunds pushed forward but Cumnor caught them on the break in the dying seconds for Tom to put away a shot from outside the penalty area. Man of the match was Guy for the all important goal.
A close, friendly game which I hope everybody enjoyed.
