Garden City Tournament 10th May 2008

With the temperature in the late 20's, and the sun beating down, Cumnor fielded two strong teams for the tournament.

The mood was optimistic at the start, but in the first game the A team failed to convert their many chances against Yarnton, hitting the woodwork twice. From then on, Cumnor failed to find the finishing power to win matches. To be fair, other than the last game, Cumnor looked the better side in all the matches, but other than a brace for Harry against Lauton, the usually prolific team failed to find the net, and in the last game heads dropped.

The B team played well, but also found it difficult to score in the heat and long grass, losing their first three matches 1-0. However a fine opening performance against bookies' favourties Chasewell Park showed the grit and determination of the team. In the final two matches they got their reward with an exciting draw against Garden City, and then a 2-0 victory over Tower Hill Stars, Lucy and Cameron both getting fine goals.

It wasn't our day. We like it cold and wet, and with a wind howling over the moors. Never mind.
