Chesterton Tournament 4th May 2008

Yet again we had perfect weather for our second tournament of the season.

Cumnor looked good in their first match keeping Banbury at bay, and William managing to snatch victory with another belting goal. August and George D kept the defences battened down, and Lewis made his first appearance for Cumnor in goal(!).

In the second match Horspath (who eventually won the group) fell behind to a speculative effort from Phillip. However a mix-up at the first goal kick allowed them back into the game, and they then managed to nick the victory with a well worked goal.

After that Cumnor were the better side in their next 4 matches, winning 3 and drawing 1. William took his tally to 4 goals, and Lewis slotted a good opportunity to open his account. However much praise must go to all of the team who worked as a unit, and played for each other, with George M as solid as ever in defence.

In the final game, Cumnor had to play Bicester who had played their full squad (the one which won the Witney overall league), and had won 5 games and drawn 1, amassing a goal difference of +14.

However it was Cumnor who had the better opportunities, leaving George D at the back to snuffle out any chances. Charlie made a couple of good saves, and the final result was 0-0. A very good result and a very good performance.

In the end (although they don't announce the results) we came 3 after Horspath and Bicester in a group of eight teams.

Well played, and if anyone has seen Charlie's trainers...
