Kennington Tournament 26th April 2008

It had always looked liked a difficult group for Cumnor with Horspath A, Ardington and Chasewell Park A all teams which had done well in the year. Cumnor turned up with a line up which will be the norm for next year, a mixture of the old A and B team.

Cumnor got off to a slow start in their opening match, going down 1-0 after 30 seconds. Chasewell were quicker out of the blocks, and looked lively, and Cumnor never managed to get themselves back in the game, losing by four goals.

However after the poor start Cumnor did themselves proud, drawing the next two group games. Louie Davidson getting the goal against Horspath, which not only drew the match, but also gained us third place in the group.

In the afternoon group, Cumnor were playing in a group made up of all 3rd place teams, and easily managed to win all three games. Well done to William for getting three goals, and Lucy for getting two.

Chasewell Park, the only team we lost to, came out eventual winners of the tournament, and it was interesting that all 4 teams in our morning group, came out winners of their afternoon groups.

Well done to all the players who played with strength of character to come back from the first match. Remember it is not all over until the man in black blows the whistle!

Our thanks to Kennington for a professional tournament which was great fun. Obviously they have some powerful connections because it really was the first day of summer.
