Cumnor arrived in good spirits but knew this was going to be a real test. Bicester Colts got off to a flying start and Cumnor were perhaps slightly surprised by the strength and speed of the game. Cumnor did manage to take the game into the opposition half on frequent occasions but could find no cutting edge through a very solid and reliable defence.
In reply Bicester Colts were fluid and able to exert maximum pressure from any opportunities. Adam performed particularly strongly in goal and was under constant pressure. The first two goals were strong high kicks in which he had no chance and if not for his diligence the eventual score line would have been greater than the eventual 3-0 at half time.
George M also had a notable game thwarting a good many attack but Bicester Colts were just too strong, big and quick. Max had a particularly audible and nasty knock near the end of the first half and showed great resolve in coming back on the pitch.
After half time Cumnor managed to regroup and had a much better performance keeping shape and pace. The barrage was halted but the best that could be maintained was a second half stalemate ending 3-0 to Bicester Colts.
Bicester fielded a very similar squad for the second match but this did not deter the Cumnor second team who played with spirit and determination. However, the story was much the same as the first team in that forays in the Bicester half were solidly parried and any attacker found themselves isolated by a drilled Bicester defence. Cameron played particularly well in mid field and in truth deserved a goal for his efforts and was unfortunate in one fine self -made strike on goal.
The Cumnor defence played with spirit and resolve under constant pressure but Bicester Colts managed to find the gaps threading 3 goals into the net. Tom and Max took turns in goal and also had fine performances, thwarting a bigger score line. However, this was very worthy performance by the second team considering the eventual score line was no different to the first match.
