This was always going to be a difficult match with the number of absentees at the half term weekend. Out of a squad of 17, we managed to muster 7 to take on the fiercest competition of the season.
However the team did themselves credit in difficult conditions.
In the first game Cumnor nicked an early goal against the play, and then decided to dig in. Tom played just in front of Guy and Charlie who were effective in getting the ball away as quickly as possible. Max and Harry harried in midfield, and Lucy kept two defenders occupied. With the lionshare of possession the defences eventually gave way and a scrappy goal let Banbury get level just before half time.
In the second half the team were equally resolute, but conceded two goals against some good play by the Banbury team. Towards the end, Cumnor pushed back, and were denied a penalty after Lucy turned the Banbury defender, who then in a moment of panic brought her down. As usual this was deemed to have occured just outside the area.
In the second game tired legs allowed the fresher legs of Banbury to run away with a large score.
I think the team accredited themselves well, and can be very pleased with the way they played. I am sure it will be a different match for the return.
