On a another wet afternoon, Cumnor showed their resilience by comig back from two goals down to draw the match against the meanest defence in the league.
Playing uphill into the wind, Cumnor had the lion's share of possession and all the goal mouth action in the first half, but were unable to convert this into a lead. The woodwork and Yarnton goalie were both on fine form, and Yarnton showed great resilience as Cumnor had corner after corner.
However at the start of the second half, Cumnor lost a quick goal against the run of play. However, worse was to come - pushing forwards Cumnor left gaps at the back, and Yarnton scored another breakaway goal. Two nil down with 7 minutes to play, it looked bad for us.
The team showed their great fighting spirit by never giving up, and with only 3 minutes to go, Harry broke free and gave us hope. With only seconds left on the clock, Cumnor had yet another corner, and somehow the ball ended up in the back of the net. The goal was given to Tom, but the dubious goals panel may have to take a look at it.
Although the result wasn't what we wanted, the team showed great spirit against a determined Yarnton team. Great games from all, but particularly Guy and George D, who both had excellent games.
In the second game, Cumnor showed their strength in depth. Playing 8-a-side, Yarnton took an early lead, but were soon pulled back by a George M special. After that, the rain started to pour down in torrents, and many of the players (and spectators) looked as though the whistle could be blown a little early. However the referee was having none of it.
In the second half, the game belonged largely to Cumnor with further goals by Lucy, and Harry. Though how anyone could see what was going on through the rain was puzzling.
The second team have come far this season. After a couple of early heavy defeats, they have come together as a team, and are difficult to beat.
Man of the match: Issac for some great tackling.
